A new report released today in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association reveals that African Americans in all age groups have lower average intakes of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus and consume fewer servings of dairy foods than non African Americans. African Americans in all age groups do not meet the 2005 Dietary Guidelines recommendation for three daily servings of low-fat or fat-free milk or milk products.

A survey of clinical laboratory professionals has found that less than half think their laboratory could effectively respond in a hazardous chemical emergency. As a result of these findings, the American Society for Clinical Pathology will launch a series of online training courses to help clinical laboratories better prepare for a hazardous chemical event- anything from a train derailment to a chemical attack.

GlaxoSmithKline today announced that its new generation H5N1 split antigen pre-pandemic influenza vaccine has been accepted for review by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) in Europe. This innovative vaccine utilizes GSK's novel proprietary adjuvant system technology which allows a very low amount of antigen (3.8µg) to be used to elicit a strong seroprotective response -- the so-called 'antigen-sparing' effect.
