The United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi found that State Farm wrongfully denied claims of a victim of Hurricane Katrina. In Broussard v. State Farm Fire & Casualty Co., the judge ruled that State Farm failed to pay a family for the loss of their home.

Indian insurance industry is anticipated to witness a 500% growth and reach to US$ 60 Billion in the coming four years, thanks to swelling demand in semi-urban and rural areas, reported industry chamber Assocham. Life insurance market in semi-urban and rural territories is expected to rise to US$ 20 Billion mark in the upcoming four years from the existing value of less than US$ five Billion. This is because more semi-urban and rural populace would opt insurance cover for a secure future, said Assocham. On the other hand, life insurance market in urban zones is expected to surge to US$ 15 Billion.

Application activity for individually underwritten life insurance sold by U.S. insurance companies declined -6.6% in November year-over-year, the ninth consecutive month of decreases in 2006, according to the MIB Life Index(SM). Year-to-date (YTD), U.S. application activity is off -3.6%, compared to the same eleven months in 2005.

MIB Group, Inc. North American application activity for individually underwritten life insurance declined -3.1% in June, year-over-year, according to the MIB Life Index. It was the Index's fifth consecutive monthly drop this year. Year-to-date, June application activity was off -3.3% for North America; off -3.4% and -2.7% for the U.S. and Canada, respectively. Second quarter applications (Apr.-June) U.S. and Canada combined were off -4.0% versus Q2 2004. By comparison, Q2 2004 activity was less than -1.0% below that of Q2 2003. |

Conning Research & Consulting, Inc. The U.S. life insurance industry is projected to post operating gains in 2005 and 2006 that build on the strong results for 2003 and 2004. The operating gain for 2004 was $6.5 billion greater than the 2003 gain, which was itself a record. The projected operating gains for 2005 and 2006, while slightly less than 2004, are likely to keep the industry on solid financial ground, according to a new report by Conning Research and Consulting, Inc. |
