Alireza Jafarzadeh, an expert on Iran and the man responsible for breaking the news in August 2002 about Iran's nuclear weapons program, says he has detailed information showing that "agents on Tehran's payroll involved in violence and death squads hold prominent positions in the Iraqi government and National Assembly." Jafarzadeh's recently published book THE IRAN THREAT: President Ahmadinejad and the Coming Nuclear Crisis (Palgrave Macmillan) exposes just how much of Iraq is under Iran's thumb.

However, while this suggests the U.S. adult public thinks that perhaps things aren't quite as negative in Iraq, other data within this same survey still paints a very negative picture. | |

As the Department of Defense issued new rules pertaining to the procedures for military commissions of war on terror detainees, Jumana Musa, Advocacy Director for Domestic Human Rights and International Justice, released the following statement. Musa has traveled repeatedly to the Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to observe preliminary proceedings for detainees facing trial by military commission.

Eighteen percent of government workers say they are dissatisfied with their jobs, and 20 percent plan to leave their current positions by the end of 2007, according to a recent CareerBuilder.com survey. Thirty-six percent say better pay and/or career advancement opportunities will be their primary motivations for leaving. The survey, "Job forecast 2007 - Government," was conducted from November 17 through December 11, 2006 and included more than 115 government workers. | |

The country of Pakistan has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the procurement of 500 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) - generating the largest single international AMRAAM purchase -- and 200 AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles. This is also the first AMRAAM missile procurement between Raytheon Company and Pakistan. Delivery of the AMRAAM missiles will start in 2008 and continue through 2011.

The National Commander of The American Legion Paul A. Morin voiced his organization's strong support for President George W. Bush's new initiatives in Iraq which include deploying 21,500 more U.S. troops there and implementing a well-defined mission. "The six fundamental elements of this new strategy have a good chance of providing the security environment and framework in Iraq -- particularly in Baghdad and Anbar Province -- to make both military and political progress," Morin said.
