Playhouse Theatre Players (PTP), presents "House On The Hill, Mammy Pleasant's Story." This must see dramatic portrayal of historical figure Mammy Pleasant considered the Mother of Civil Rights in the 1800s in the State of California opens February 4th with the Sunday Speaker Series. Playhouse Theatre Playhouse is located at 600 Moulton Avenue (at Main Street and Moulton Ave, North of Downtown Los Angeles). Show times are Saturdays at 6 PM and Sundays at 3 PM.
For 25 years during the nineteenth century a shrewd-eyed black woman was thought to have tyrannized the Bell Mansion. It was said that she was 'a female version of Robin Hood,' 'the Superwoman of the Gold Rush,' and 'a voodoo queen who possessed the boldness of Evita Peron and the lawlessness of Lucretia Borgia.' What was her hold on Thomas and Theresa Bell? How did she amass her wealth? What is the secret of the House on the Hill?
This unique deviation from Playhouse Theatre Players 30s & 40s presentation is being performed by Sharon L. Graine returning to the stage as Mammy Pleasant; Chester A. Graine III, as William the Butler; Shannon Roberts, as Teresa Bell; Kevin Dulude and Tim Forsyth rotate the role of Thomas Bell. |
